4790k vs 6700k worth it for a board upgrade?

Hi I am sure this has been asked before but I can't find anything, maybe I am not looking hard enough.

I have a 4790k and I am using a gigabyte ga-z97x gaming g1 black edition, I can get a free upgrade to the z170x gaming g1 which gives me a lot of new features for free. Plus I like the look of the new board and quite fancy an upgrade.

My 4790k runs at 4.7 at 1.297v totally stable, if I changed to the new board I don't know if the new processor will be as good as my current CPU.

If I could only get 4.5 from the sky lake chip would it be comparable in performance to the 4790k?

I would like the m.2 slots and the thunderbolt. It would only cost me about 130 for the upgrade depending on what ram I go for. The main thing is that I don't want to loose any performance due to the sky lake not overclocking as well.

I do prefer the look of the new board, the features are probably not worth the upgrade alone but the newer design and technology should be relevant for longer.

Thanks, I will have to do some research on the ram to find the best balance between frequency and latency. The reason I am asking about the CPU is that without the free upgrade from Gigabyte I won't be able to afford an upgrade with parts that I could with this upgrade.
