[4790K] What am I doin wrong?

i have just installed the same 4790k

running on the Maximus VII formula and NZXT x60AIO cooler. Idle between 26-28

I used Asus ROG RealBench 2.2 and Was hitting 48-50 on the benchmarking test. Vcore was 1.219v

1.4V !! And there i was thinking 1.263v was a tad high when my 4790k boosts to 4.4GHz (Asrock Z97 Extreme4 default bios settings).
Are you running the latest bios for your board? The first DC chip i had was 1.264 at stock, though i was able to drop vcore to 1.200 and boot into windows and run stuff like xtu, cinebench or real bench. Also, the key to clocking theese seems to be cpu input voltage, (vrin on gigabyte, input voltage on asus). From some info posted up by stulid and vonex on the 4790k owners thread, vrin should be 0.06-0.07 higher than vcore. ie 1.300 vcore, 2.00 vrin.

I'm new to Haswell DC chips (Haswell in general really). My board is running the latest bios version (1.30), although i still managed to boot and install Windows 8.1 just fine before updating the bios to the version that supposedly adds 4790K support.

I'll have another nosey around the bios settings later :)

Aye, as your using a Z97 board mate, theese supported DC straight of the bat. Im on an older Z87 board so had to flash the bios with my 4770k installed before replacing it with the 4790k.

If I were you I wouldn't fret too much about synthetic benchmarks. Haswells are bound to get toasty when running P95 and the like. If the CPU can cope with normal usage loads, then you're sorted as no app/game is likely to stress your CPU anywhere near P95 levels. That voltage needs sorting out, though.

whatever this guy tells you is da troof!

QFLASHed BIOS to F6

volts now at 1.2v .. not even goona run prime .. i don't even need to

thanks you all:D
Thats more like it, and yes avoid p95 etc. Moreso when you go to overclock as temps will still be extremely high. Nice setup btw.:)

happy indeed !
Prime+ibt NO NEED!!!!!
yup, it works in real life stuff fine and good!

only really installed prime cause ... well... it's what I've always done to make sure I've installed the cooler properly :)
