4790k - Worrying temperatures?

I've recently build a 4790k system using a gigabyte z97m-d3h motherboard. I'm using the stock cooler at the moment with artic silver 5. Idle temperatures are usually in the low to mid 30s. I just encoded a video using handbrake and coretemp was showing the temperatures in the 90s, occasionally peaking at 99c. I'm not running any overclock. Is this something I should be concerned about? Should I consider a different cooler if I'm going to be doing the odd bit of video encoding?

Thanks

Yes that is too high for my liking, id grab a 20 quid cpu cooler and the temps will be a lot better.

Definitely far too hot for stock. The stock coolers are terrible. With that CPU and mobo I guess you have plans to overclock at some point so get something decent on there.

Not in the immediate future. Wanted to give myself the option of squeezing more performance out of it further down the road. Did the same with my last system which lasted me nearly 7 years

I'll lay off the cpu intensive tasks until I get something more significant on there.

Thanks for that. I'll have to get the tape measure out and see exactly how much space I have... Unless someone already knows? Antec 300 :)

Is the stock cooler definitely installed correctly? (All corner clips firm and in place)

I don't think you should be getting temperatures like that at stock speeds, even with the stock cooler.

If your going to overclock your CPU especially a Haswell get a better Heatsink as they run hot anyway, the stock Heatsink is not designed for good overclocking

With my OC's l like to keep the CPU temps below 70'c no more than 75'c at most for 24/7 use.

You might not be overclocking, but you probably have turbo boost enabled which will increase the clock speed to 4.4Ghz.

As above, the stock cooler is really awful

Same here, Thou I am using XSPC EX240 idle temps are 24-33 max can reach upto 89 when overclocked 14%.

I didn't like the stock cooler at all, given it is K edition get a better cooler

Thread resurrection time! I've been looking through different coolers and I'm thinking of going with the Be Quiet BK018 Dark Rock 3. I'm just a little concerned about space. I have an Antec 300 case and I'm using 2 8 gig sticks of Crucial Balistix Sport Ram. Can anyone see any potential problems that I might be missing? Also I've got a tube or Artic Silver 5. I assume that's still fine to use with this?
