hi was happy with my gigabyte gtx480 till recently when suddenly the fans stopped turning, now i cant remember if they stopped before driver update or not.
since then i have cleaned card, rolled back drivers and then uninstalled drivers and re installed them but still no fans.
anything i can try before i call ocuk, not sure how much warranty came with card but prob gonna be out of warranty.
if out of warranty can i just put new case style fans on it ?
cheers for any input mel

I think the chances are the fan on the cooler is dead.

Is your GTX480 with a reference PCB? Cause you might need to hunt for a 3rd party VGA cooler that's compatable with the GTX480.

is there any way to check that ? i dont have another powerpack to test it.
the computer starts and the card powers up just the fans dont turn.
i'll try different lines on powerpack.

Check the fans are plugged into the power socket (trace the cable). If plugged in, it may pay to swap the heat sink and fans if it is out of warranty.

For now with the fans not working, I would strongly suggest you stay well away from stressing the card (i.e. gaming). It might even worth downclocking and downvolting the card for now for reducing the temp.

If it isn't in warranty take the fan out of the cooler (remove any cowling) and stick an 8cm fan to it with cable tie and plug it into a molex. I find a 2000RPM 8cm fan is superior to the smaller fans on the reference cards.

so phoned ocuk and got a rma seem to be in warranty so its back to the 5770 for a while.
if oc dont have any 480 what will i get ? what is on par with 480 ?
cheers for all the suggestion's :)

Thats a good point, what would they give you if they dont have a 480, i mean i would imagine it would be kinda hard to source one now(but im no expert). Fingers crossed for you :D please let us know what they say im very curious as to if they do or don't have these cards still

A GTX 570 would be roughly similar. They may even offer you a 580 if they have no 480's in stock (though don't get your hopes up). An overclocked HD 7850 would be similar as would a GTX 660.
