I already have a 480 Soc and just won a bit of money and could get another one but my question is will my xfx 850watt black edition power them

my specs are i7 920 at 3.3
asus rampage II
2 hdds 1 ssd
7 or so led case fans
cd drive and lcd fan controler
h50 cpu cooler
6 gig ocz reaper ram

you could do it as your PSU is good but
1) Two SOC's isn't a good idea. Go for a reference 480 instead
2) 1kw PSU would be more suitable
3) An SSD may show better results
4) what res do you play at?

Another SOC means you are dumping all that heat into the case. What case do you have? Considering that you have 7 fans in it I suspect another SOC would be fine however.

SLI 480GTX will peak up to about 780w. Some people will say it will reach 800W. The XFX 850w black edition is however extreamly good as it is seasonic design and thus can supply up to and in fact slightly over (in some cases) it's stated wattage. But running it for long periods of time is obviously not going to end well. Considering your resolution, these cards will be stressed out heavily a lot of the time and you will frequently be running around or just bellow the 800w mark. I would therefore suggest not running it on a 850w psu as really you want to keep in the bottom 80% of a psu's stated wattage for most of the time. However it is doable, I would just question the lifespan of the psu as a result.

At the end of the day. If the SOC doesn't work just send it back to ocuk and they know the drill. Try and get a new one out to you soon. It's still a great deal and they aren't all broken so even if you get unlucky you'll get a decent one next go most likely.
