4800+ (939) with A8N32-Sli mobo question

Hi, Just messing about overclocking the above CPU with my new PC build, question i have; does the CPU have unlocked multi or locked at 12x?

Reason i ask is the CPU when coupled with MSi K8N Neo2 Plat mobo was fine right upto 3Ghz with just .025 extra on stock volts. Yet with Asus A8N32-Sli board its now within; well im having problems getting the CPU past 2.76Ghz even at 1.475v which is far above what i pushed it on old mobo. Seems weird to me so i guess lowering the multi might reep rewards if i can? ;)

Any advice most welcome, very annoying when you know your CPU's limits already yet cant get near em with the same CPU just diff system. :(

Nah rams fine, ive got that under run whilst i play around with CPU. ;) The HT is 4x, so in the 800's at mo till i reach 3Ghz CPU (if). This Asus mobo bios is a real ***** to get your head round, had to tinker for ages till i knew where everything was...

I would drop the HT to 3 or 2x if I were you. Also there are a lot of settings in there. Here are a few suggestions to try. Apologies in advance if you already have these set.
Jumperfree configuration
SB to NB Overclock manual
SB to NB Frequency 200
Adjust PCIE Frequency 100
Peg Link Normal or disabled
Overvoltage CPU vcore enabled
Overvoltage NB vcore enabled
Overvoltage SB vcore enabled
Overvoltage Hypertransport enabled
FID/ViD chnage manual
DDR Clock Skew Auto

Set your memory as you prefer or slack and make sure ECC is disabled.

np, I have found it to be a great board and can get 335 FSB Prime stable and game at 345, but as you said earlier the BIOS takes some reading.

Ok after a bit more playing about now works fine (see thumbnail pic clicky) Had all the options as above except I didnt set the 'PEG Link' correct rather stupidly - so thanks for advice. :)

mine does 2.8 on prettymuch stock...
needs 1.6v for 3000, but might be mobo. no one else seems to use the abit AX8, and it has some..... funny quirks. (10x multi, only core #1 shows up in windows, core #0 gone 9x multi only core #0 in windows... etc)

Nice!

What cooling are you using to get there?

My 165 has been under a Scythe ninja and a thermaltake big typhoon but temps have kept me under 2.9ghz. At that clock i would get 55 degrees C in coretemp and didn't wanna go any higher.

Excellent clock though - that's very impressive! ;)
