Heya, just wondering about the 4800 series and crossfiring.

I'm currently looking to build a new rig based on an x48 mobo, however I probably won't crossfire from the start.

At the minute I've got a tiny 15" Monitor (1024x768) which I won't be upgrading for a while - early next year perhaps.

So as I don't have much need for ahigh GPU I was thinking of grabbing a 4850 to tide me over for now and then in a few months when I get a 24" Monitor of grabbing a 4870x2 and I'm hoping I'll be able to x-fire them.

Is this possible, I've doen a super quick search and it seems that a 4870 with the same amount of ram/OC can be x-fired with similar 4870x2, but nothing about 4850's..

Cheers for any input.

Cheers, thought it might work.. will see if I can find anymore info on it this weekend.

Yeah it'll work, any cards from the same series can be paired, they are working on being able to pair the 3800's with the 4800's to.

I wouldn't pair a 4850 with an X2 though, as you'll only get the 512mb off the 4850, you'll lose the 2gb of the X2 as you only get the Ram from the card with the smallest amount.
