480GTX - Which Brand

I'm getting a 480GTX as a 5970 wont fit in my case (Z-machine) without removing the hard drive cage which is full.

I understand the reference cards on offer will be close in terms of performance but do any brands offer a double lifetime warranty in the UK, i.e. allow you to sell the card to another buyer and retain the warranty? Which brand are people opting for and what's that based on - support etc?

I believe Zotac's warranty is transferable (it used to be anyway). Out of all the brands currently listed on OcUK, Zotac has by far the longest warranty (5yrs). They may also permit cooler change without impacting on the warranty, but it would be wise to check with Zotac first.

I think since there are only 200 gtx480 available in the whole of Europe that whichever card you can find in stock will be the answer for a month or so :p

Well the best warranty would be the Zotac 480 which has 5 years. As for which brands people are going for your best checking the USA forums because there aint no 480's available in UK as far as I know.

Damn thats not good!

ANyone know a good EVGA supplier in the UK? OCUK doesnt seem to do them and i understand their software is pretty good

So not accurate then just semiaccurate ;)

True so we will wait and see. Just noticed that it's 200 gtx 470 and gtx 480 cards combined so god knows how few gtx 480's there will be on the 12th.

I reckon they are going to be far harder to get old off than the 5 series were.

That doesn't look promising either as people on EVGA forums in the states were complaining that EVGA had pulled cards from their online shop after a few days of pre-order as I presume they have allocated all their stock.

The Zotac website says you cant tamper with the cooler and the warranty is non transferable. I don't think there's any 480 vendors which allow sell on in the UK?

Also there's pretty much zero chance of anyone getting a card next week by all accountsso how come this site is still showing an ETA for next Monday. They are already spoken for surely with pre-orders?

Extended Warranty Details
• Product must be registered within 14 days of purchase
• Graphics Card must not be damaged/tampered with by user
• Serial number and unique identification sticker must not be tampered, damaged or removed
• Original receipt is required for extended warranty service
• Customer seeking warranty service must be the first owner of the product

It seems it's just getting worse and worse for NVIDIA... Even if I actually wanted a Fermi card, and was willing to put aside their poor performance (excess heat, power draw, price etc.), I'd almost not buy one out of principle because of their poor business etiquette (repeated delays, lack of stock etc.). What the hell's happened to them?

I realise this will be common knowledge for a lot of people but for the benefit of the rest..

I just spoke to ocuk sales who said they had no information from Nvidia distibutors regarding Monday's delivery and wouldnt be suprised to see the date pushed back to the end of the month. They usually get reference cards in for internal testing 4-6 weeks prior to cards going on sale but they've had nothing. Asus pre-orders are highest at 56 and the other brands are around the dozen mark or less.

I will be gutted if I dont get a card next week. I have been waiting since last year for Fermi and I really did think that I would have one soon after the reviews were released on the 26/27th of March.

Nvidia has royally cocked up this gen of cards. :(

Oops, that's not good news. With only 200 gtx 470 AND GTX 480 available in the whole of Europe come Monday (if semiaccurate is right) and ocuk already has over 100 pre-orders on just GTX480 alone, it might be quite some time before some people see their GTX 480.

I can see Fatby posting on Monday - Good news we have taken delivery of 2 Asus GTX 480 cards :p
