480gtx

Its not really an upgrade to be honest... Unless you plan on using 3d vision?

Is the 4870X2 actually struggling with Arma2?

5870 is only around as fast as 4870x2. 2GB memory is pointless unless you are playing at very high res or Metro 2033.

If you are having issue of low minimum frame rate with 4870x2 for general gaming, I would image it is CPU limitation than the 4870x2 being not powerful enough.

As above the 5870 will be more than a sidestep than an upgrade, the 480 will be an upgrade as well over the 4870x2. For me I decided to wait and get a 5970 so i got that upgrade feeling as otherwise I would have been disappointed swapping

The 4870x2 is still a cracking card, i feel it goes too cheap second hand for the performance it gives. As above is it actually giving you any performance problems?

Arma 2 is coded like a pig, I went from a 8800gtx to a 5870, not really the improvement I was looking for. It seems people with i7's seem to have more luck improvng frame rates than the phenoms and core chips.

Well I think my 4870x2 is dieing any way artifacts and white squares flash on the screen
So is the 5870 2gb version not worth it over the 1tbd version

You will find arma 2 has issues with dual graphics, one of the reasons my old 5770's made way for a 5870 lol, I'm sure with a bit of googling there are some guides to setting up arma 2, kinda stuck here as all iv got is an iPhone in the hospital lol. I need to have a good look around myself to get arma running better, although I hear one of the game updates does clear up some of the fps problems

You know the x2 was prone to stutter and inconsistent performance in a lot of games, I think going to a single card solution of the same performance " better in some games " is an upgrade, you get 100% scaling in all games and better min FPS, DX11 and less power consumption/heat

Like i said my old 4870x2 is dying and because i play arma2 a lot i would be better off with a single gpu card arma hates my 4870x2 and as for why i got a 2gb version i do game at high res and arma uses a lot of texuture memory.
