Ok heres the story, i used to have an old ati 1650 card, very slow and what not gettng like 15 fps in oblivion on medium. Today i took the plunge and recived my new ati 4830:Dyay. However i went on oblivion and im geting the complete same fps, well on high 9fps :S, this cant be normal surley. I thought this Card was fairly fast and be a massive upgrade i was told? I also tried it in other games like dead space and was getting around 30 fps on highest settings, which seems ok, but i dont know.

So what is going on here? Please help

Did you perform an uninstall of the old drivers before installing the new card with the latest drivers?

I'd expect a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo around 3GHz to be performing better, the HD4830 while not the greatest is certainly very capable!

Uninstall the drivers, use some form of driver cleaner (driver sweep?) to clear away the old stuff completely, then download the latest WHQL drivers from ATI and have another go! :)

What resolution are you gaming at btw?

Im going to use driver sweeper get rid of them all, then install 9.5 catalsyt and see what happens, if that fails, i dont know what to do.

yea it is definetly, but these past few weeks it has been very sluggish ive been trying to solve the problem but, the cpu is still quite slow even though its now clocked at 2.7ghz. Do you think reducing the clock speed may take stress off and theoretically make it run faster?

I'm thinking somethings not right, it's not obvious what though?

I mean 2GB is enough for some games but not all, an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo around 3GHz is not gonna lag Oblivion?

1MB of CPU cache is a bit weedy compared to 6MB, that may well not be helping.

Apart from that its needs further investigation!

Right i wiped all drives off, restarted, installed the card again, then installed 9.5, re-installed oblivion and im still getting the same FPS..

should be a massive, astounding increase really.....something is odd. Are your temperatures ok during gaming?
