I've been playing on a 20" Dell for nearly 2 years now and it's came to that time where i want something shinier. The question is will a 4850 be able to handle the res of 1920x1200? It seems to handle everything i've thrown at it over the past few days at 1600x1200 but i don't want to throw more money at the pc on a 24" screen if the gpu will struggle.

So, will i be fine on the card i have or should i wait until i can afford a better one before getting the screen i'm after?

Edit - Oh and the 4850 i have is a 512MB one not 1GB.

Well i suppose it depends on what your expectations are, it will do ok on most games, but i expect newer titles will struggle slightly at higher detail settings a 4870 1GB or 260 would be a better bet IMO

if you happy with framerates around the 30 mark then it'l be fine, if you want more it probably won't

I can play fallout 3 very comfortably on my housemates 46" 1080p tv. Fallout 3, far cry 2, dead space etc all play great, crysis is a bit slow but knocking it down to just high and removing the AA soon sorts that out.

Hmm thanks for the answers guys. I have to say i'm quite surprised, i really hadn't expected anyone to say anything positive about a 4850 at that resolution seeing as the card is so cheap. I usually run 4x AA on most games, but from what i understand i'll be able to run 2x or none at all with the higher res and not notice much of a difference.

Mostly i play MMO's with the odd new offline game thrown in here or there to mix it up and MMO's usually aren't that graphically intensive so it sounds like i'll be fine.

I use a 8800GT on 1900x1200 most of the time and its fine,
I'm mainly waiting for some decent CPUs to come out, other than that, the highest settings on some of the new games like GTAIV arent too much different from the medium, I'm not bothered on medium.
