Hi Gurus,

Has anyone tried the 7.1ch audio over HDMI with a 4850 or 4870 yet?

I'd like to know how well it works, sound quality, compatibility issues, etc.

Would I see any benefit from my current set up of connecting to my AV amp via a tos link separately from the HDMI?

Thanks Ya'll

Seems like you need the specific dvi-hdmi converter in the box and it works perfectly

I havent had much of a chance to test it yet, but used it on dvd's and a few br's (crappy br software though)

I don't have a new ATI card yet, but afaik you should get a dvi-> hdmi adapter with the card, dual link dvi has spare capacity as it can transmit much higer than 1080p so sound can be sent also. the adapter simply phyically changes it to hdmi.

it allows you to transmit lcmp, which is the audio in is purest form, letting you fancy amp do the work.

sounds good but is it any better in reality, you are only going to get a benefit on stuff that has this high quality audio such as bluray, most downloads wont have it unless it is a direct rip.

the problem is software. you need something that supports u will probably have to pay for it, i get confused at this point. :p

Would the DVI/HDMI adapter that comes with the 4870 work on an Nvidia card??

Would be nice to get sound through to my TV as well as audio! Straying a little, but would my 8800GTX transmit sound in this manner?

Ta

^^8800GTX doesn't support this.^^

Did you need to connect the mobo to the card somewhere or does it take the digital sound through the PCI-E bus?
