Ok so the 4870 has 2 x 6 pin power connectors and the 4850 according to the webnote has 1-6 pin and 1-8 pin isnt that kinda weird seeing the 4850 is lower spec than the 4870 ???

I think they are mistaken.
Look at this table from sapphire's site. It only requires 1 six pin
