Hey guys, ive had my HIS 4850 for around a year now. I recently got some new hardware for my computer (mobo,RAM,CPU) and ever since then my PC locks up and makes this strange kind of buzzing noise in game after about 20mins of game play and i have to reset. some people have said its a HDD failure, and tbh my hdd does need replacing, but i dont want to replace the hdd and it be a graphic card problem. just wanna see what you guys thinks ?

Hello and welcome to the forums :)

Could list you full spec and PSU make and wattage.

When this a fresh install of windows if the motherboard was changed, are all drivers up-to date.

Asus M4A89GTD PRO

Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Memory Kit CL9(9-9-9-27) 1.7 - 1.9V
HIS 4850 512MB IceQ Turbo
Maxtor 160GB HDD (nearly 3 years old)
Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W Modular PSU
CM Storm Scout

I recommend grabbing GPUz to check temps. Its quick, and is something to check before considering the big reinstall. You did a fresh install on the new mobo?

I recommend Coretemp for checking cpu temps. Use Furmark to try and load the graphics card without the cpu, and prime95 for loading the cpu without graphics. HDTune can often confirm bad sectors on a hard drive.

yup i did a fresh install of windows !

temps on my gfx dont go above 86 degrees and cpu about 56 degrees

ill try the hdtune in a second, just got back from work ! there was a video on youtube guy had the same gfx and after a while same problem and strange noise. another guy commented saying he had the same problem and fixed it with a new hard drive so im tempted to go out any buy one over the weekend

RAM voltage is set to AUTO in bios, which is 1.8 i think

The card shouldnt need replacing after only a year.

1. Ensure graphics drivers are all up to date.
2. Make sure the thermal paste on the GPU hasnt begun to wear out. (I had this problem. After about 30mins of gameplay it would start playing up. Was just a simple case of re applying thermal paste)

drivers are all up to date. but ill give reapplying the thermal paste a go. i was thinking of trying it but i havent got round to getting any thermal paste yet. ive just noticed cooler looks like it has a fair bit of dust in it, so ill give it a clean and reapply paste
