4850 or 4870

Hey im buildin my new Pc with a new 22 inch monitor, and was wondering which card i should go for the ati 4850 or 4870, i code, do web based programming, some flash development, image design and play a few games

also what company should i get it from (HIS, saphire etc)

I also want this system to last a few years

No, you only need 1gig card if your monitor is over 24", the memory only directly effects resolution, not handling of any detail, thats done by the clocks, therefore using less than 24" monitor a 512Mb card will perform just as well as a 1gig card

AA and HDR affect framebuffer size as far as i am aware.

A few years ago 256MB was good for 1240x1024, now cards are bottlenecked.

I would go for 1GB, but both are excellent. It all depends on the approximate time till he can buy a new one really.
 
Just quoting ATI, though a few other people have disagreed with this in other forum threads???

In a comparison, at low resolutions the 1gb and 512mb had like less than .5 of a fps between them, for something thats 22" I'd be going for the 1gb though just to be safe.
