4850 problem

My m8 and his brother have recently bought two of these for themselves from overclockers:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Both of them perform as expected in new games such as cod4, getting high fps etc.

However on Call Of Duty United Offensive which is a far older game, he only gets 40-50fps at times which is not playable at all.. Now this is only a problem with one of the cards, the other one gets far more fps as u would expect. so why is it happening to the other one?

The rest of his sytem is as listed, but i dont understand how anything would effect an older game, but not a newer one? I understand CODUO is a CPU limited game, but his older card (7800GT) got better FPS than his newer 4850 in the same machine.

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+

Memory: 2GB DDR2

Hard Drive: 160 GB

Video Card: ATi HD4850

Operating System: XP PRO SP3

Motherboard: MSI

PSU: Antec Earthwatt 430W

not sure what type of motherboard it is, all i know is that it defo has an x16 PCI-E.

Bit of a random problem so dont know what to expect in terms of replies, but any help appriciated.

thx

EDIT: forgot to mention he currently games at 1024 x 768 until he gets his new monitor, his brother who has no problems games at 1280 x 1024 and still gets higher fps.

thx again

That's a very low res to play on and the card could be heavily cpu bottlenecked at that res.

Up the res and the card takes over more.

As the new cards more powerful youre more limited with a lower powered CPU so therefore you get less fps now at low res.
. Less grunt for the more poweful card.

Up the res and in theory higher fps as the card will be less dependent on
the CPU. IMO the CPU you have is underpowering your new card a bit.

As I say higher res happier card.
