After installing my 5770 and not seeing a real improvement I decided to run some benchmarks.

4850 (512MB)
5770 (1GB)

3DMARK05
17158 17246

3DMARK06
SM2 = 5036 5422
HDR = 5898 6528

3D VANTAGE
8126 9625

Finding my 5770 to be a lot noisier too ... not too much of a difference if you ask me. Considering I paid very little for my 4850, makes it a winner in comparison.

I thought the 5770 was more closer in performance to the 4870.

If power consumption and heat was no concern a second hand 4870 would have been better price wise.

The vantage benchmark is more or less the same as mine at stock speed.
Overclocked to 1000/1350 it got 11146 on performance setting

I found my first 5770 to only be slightly behind my 4870, but cooler and with less power draw, and a fair bump up from the 4850 I had before that.

My 2 in crossfire draw about the same wattage as my 4870 did, cost £20 more than my 4870 did when I bought it, and destroy it in terms of performance.
