4850 x2

cheaper than elsewhere in the uk but, according to a few people they are $150 cheaper than the 4870x2 in the states, so a £100 difference it should be, for the 2gig version. Not sure whats going on with the 4850x2 in the EU, barely available and massively overpriced.

Either way, theres "talk" of the 4870 having been dropped to the $199 price point, making it maybe £140-150 here, which would make 2 of them the cards to get. But should bring the 4870x2 and the 4850x2 cards down in price further. Not sure when its supposed to happen though :(

£260-300 is a bit steeper than I expected.

How does it work, surely manufacturing costs would be lower than making two cards, so why does it work out more expensive?

should cost more than 2 cards, higher quality power components, thicker PCB, more layers, more power problems more traces in a small space, the extra chip, etc. No particular reason it should be cheaper, its not meant to be cheaper, but easier than dual card setup and more compatible with more boards as its single slot.

I think toms said that these gave around the 280GTX performance.

Here's what they said.

"The 4850 X2 differentiates itself from a cheaper 4850 CrossFire setup with a full 2 GB of RAM, which usually allows this card to perform better than Nvidia’s flagship GeForce GTX 280."
