According to Tom's Hardware Guide (.com) 4850's are now shipping from Taiwan :D

Shouldn't be long now :D Be interesting to see how performance is effected between Gdd3 and Gddr5.

I read (could be wrong) that ati/amd are making the performance gap between the two cards (3850/70) greater this time however, which may influence the decision whether to buy the 50 or the 70 this time around.

Am wondering whether to sell the 3870 I have now and add a few extra pennies to the pot and get a 4850 or 70 myself. Not sure if a 4x pci-e slot would cut the mustard though lol.

although I have had 4 Nvidia cards, I so hope these cards kick some ass. Nvidia has been taking the **** with their 9800 series, and I hope ati strikes back.

Really hoping this brings the fight back. Nvidia are once again going the inefficient route (i.e. expensive) to get the power down, and looks like amd may have got smart with there designs. They looked flawed to start with (R600) but the economics of them look like they are starting to show their presence :)

Mate, why you still got the 4Core?! :confused:Told you ages ago to swap it out! Get a decent motherboard first, I reckon you'd need to flash any new cards BIOS first anyway to work on the 4Core. Like the problems many people were/are having with 8800gt's and some HD38xx cards. Not to mention the low CPU clocks/mem speeds/4xPCI-e lane:(. You'll thank me for it. :D

We've had 512MB cards for years, time to move on up to 1GB goodness :D

I agree, I really want at least 768MB of ram on my cards now, especially since I run at 1920x1200, I don't really want a ton of GPU power but not enough RAM to store the data. My 8800 320MB card taught me that lesson well :p

Its the 4870's that want to be shipping, i hope its not just the 4850's that are just going to be available on launch day, i wanna see some good competition, hopefully kick some life into it so we get some proper movement in the card industry, as its been **** for to long now.

ROFL... I know I know. I gathered all parts to make my wife a PC, and a new motherboard for me would have worked its way in :D Unfortunately had to prioritise what was important as we plan moving to the states (American wife), in a few years so need to clear the debt more than getting her a PC. So sold the chip I bought and some other stuff that will go towards paying off credit cards etc. Otherwise I would have had a new board months ago!

Anyway... looking forward to these coming out, just to see what ATI can do :)

will these be ok in a pci ex 1.0a or am i limited to a 8800gt(price)which i was going to buy this week.any performance difference at a guess between the two.

Maybe the time to upgrade my gfx again is near. Im really looking forward to ATIs' new cards as they seem (on paper) to be slightly better than Nvidia price/performance etc etc.

Definately, the good news is that the FSAA has also been fixed, its not done through the shaders on these like on the R600's, so when you slap the AA on, the performance shouldn't tank. :)

Bugger, just realised the 4870's aint coming till July, oh dear. :(
