4850's temp variations

I am just wondering whether its to do with how the heatsink is seated or whether its simply the luck of the draw in terms of quality of the component.

I have 2 Powercolour 4850 PCS+

The first runs at 29c idle, while the other runs at 47c idle. Fan is at default of 38%.

I have these in crossfire but have tested both on there own, the 2nd 4850 runs at 51c when in crossfire (its underneath the first).

I am just curious as to the reason for this, is it worth removing the heatsink and putting some new thermal paste there?

Thanks

in XFire/SLI one will be hotter as it will have the shared heat from ther other, i don't know how much of a difference there should be but it's not really anything to wory about

That is the 4850 with the zerotherm cooler? I've heard of someone receiving one with the heatsink not properly seated.

In GPU-Z if MEMIO sensor is much higher (20c-30c) than the other two sensors then it is a sure sign the cooler is not seated properly.

If you decide to reseat it be careful, I think the mounting hardware is a bit fragile on that card.

All 4 temps that show up are within 6-7c, so I guess my 2nd card just naturally produces a bit more heat lol. It doesn't reach load temperatures over 70-75c and thats in crossfire, so its fine.

I either got extremely lucky with my 1st card, or unlucky with the 2nd. Thanks for the replies, very helpful. I think I'll pass on reseating since the card is a bit fragile.
