If I was to add a 4850 to my 4870 what would happen to my 4870?
Would it automatically clock down and end up running as 4850 cf?

Or would I be able to clock the 4850 to get near 4870 cf results?

Would it be a waste to do this upgrade?

Also is there much differance in running cf in 16x 16 mode (x48 mobo) rather than

8x8 mode (p45 mobo)

Not sure which mobo to get next ?

Cheers in advance :)

From reviews I looked at some time back, it basically performs around the level of 4850 crossfire.

If you are determined to xfire, either ditch the 4870 and get two 4850's or get another 4870. Putting a 4850 with *** 4870 will only negate the performance benefits of the 4870.

BIG difference. Tweaktown have an article and suffice it to say the difference could easily hit 20fps.

For CrossFire get X38/X48, P35/P45 are no good.

The only advantage would be in games that don't utilise CF (Crysis being the main one), in that you can turn off the CF and run as single 4870 in that game.

I have 4850 in CF on a Asus P5Q3 Deluxe/WIFI, P45 so that means my CF might not be working all that great :(. But i must say so far its been good only played Crysis so far and it plays well.

Oh wow, I've heard the completely opposite.

I've read somewhere the difference was negligeable, ~2-4fps.

Time to dig out the article.

Edit: wow, yeah you're right, X48 actually pulls out very nicely at 2560 and AA over P45.

Crysis does scale with crossfire. Maybe not as well as COD4, but it does make quite a difference.

Well, for me it makes a difference, but it's pretty negligible, and I suspect a single 4870 would perform better than my CF 4850's in this one particular game.
