Not sure if this has already been done via these forums.

Currently got 2 x 4850's in Crossfire and very happy with performance gains over my 8800 GTX in all Crysis (which for me received no performance gain over a single 4850 set up).

Was wondering whether it's worth ditching 1 of my 4850's in favour of a 4870 and pairing this with the other 4850. Am i likely to see any meaningful improvement in performance (@ 1600 x 1280) or will the 4850 hold the 4870 back?

Cheers ;)

Why would you want to do it anyways, you got enough power as it is.
4850x2 is plenty for this resolution.

If you got nothing to do with the money you can give me some ;-).

And if you really want to upgrade that much, wait maybe month or two for RV770 Pro.

You will see an improvement as both cards run at their own individual speeds, so the 4850 won't hold it back at all, but seen as you've already got 2x 4850's, i wouldn't bother.

At that resolution i don't think getting the 4870 will benefit you much. There will come a time when you can oc both of your cores up to 4870 speeds anyway i would have thought. Rivatuner should have support soon so save yourself the money and just use that to get upto 750 on both your cores. The 4870 does see a little boost with its gddr 5 memory but not enough to justify the 60 pound extra when both cards are running 750 on the core.
