I currently have this card but I've pretty much stopped gaming on my PC and I'm thinking about replacing it with something still capable of the odd game at good graphical settings but is quiet as the 4870 I have is pretty darn loud at 30% fan.

Any suggestions? Preferably around the £150 mark or less.

If you do not game that much on your pc, have you thought about replacing the cooler?

Some thing like the Arctic Accelero TwinTurbo VGA Cooler should only be about £25.

GTX460 768MB with reference cooler is reasonably quiet; 5770 1GB Vapor X at nearly £150 is WAY too expensive.

I agree with freddie64...it's worth considering just getting a quiet VGA cooler for the 4870.

If he thinks a stock fan at 30% is loud then he will need a passive cooled gaming GPU to satisfy him but since that’s clearly a none starter (for obvious reasons) vapour-x might be the way to go – it’s more expensive but that’s the premium you pay for silence.

I wonder if the ball-bearing has gone loose on his 4870's cooler to be honest...

I suppose I am a bit picky about noise and asking for a silent gaming solution is obviously not possible. However, noise is subjective and for me 30% (29% even after just checking it) is annoying for me due to the constant drone but that's just me.

I remember I was suggested the 5770 previously but decided not to go for it as it was only a slight improvement. I'm a little torn as I really don't play game on my PC much if at all any more, mainly due to lack of time.
