Hi all,

My old 4870 512mb has finally died, it suited me fine as I don't do much gaming and only have a 20" screen.
I was just going to order another but first thought I'd see if I could get a similar power (and price) card, but something a little more quieter/low power?

Thanks,

i have one knocking around at my brothers if you're interested. postage and a couple of quid for the effort would probably do it. Unless you're after an early Xmas present...

Depending on your price range l would suggest.

AMD:

7790.
7850.
R9 270.

Nvidia:

GT 640.
GTX 650.
GTX 650 Ti.
GTX 650 Ti Boost.

Regards.

C.

Really appreciate that Dave, cheers :)
I think it'll be best to take advantage of the newer tech since the 4870 came out and ideally i'll end up with something of equivalent speed but low power. Thanks for the gesture though.

The 7750 comes to mind. It's almost equal in performance to the 5770 and 4870, but has much lower power consumption (bus-powered...max power consumption is around 42W or somewhere around that) and with dx11 support.

Thank you,

Seems like the ideal choice, will liekly go for this,
Just looking at some pricing and I could get the 7790 Turbo for a little extra (1gb) - am I right in saying this would also be bus powered?

Thanks,

Unfortunately both the 7770 and 7790 will require an additional PCI-E 6pin connector, as their power consumption are a bit higher.

It's a shame that you missed Black Friday's deal on OcUK which a MSI 7850 2GB was just £89.99 and with a Silver ticket as well (which can be exchanged for two games)...that was an absolute steal:

Wow! That was a good price, would have certainly purchased.
Am I right in saying the 4870 required 2 pin but the 7770 and 90 only one?

Thanks,

Yep. Even the 7850/7870 only require one PCI-E 6pin. The 7770/7790 would be good bit lower in power consumption than your 4870 too...the 7790 max power consumption is around 100W.
