hi,

i have a 4870 and thought i would share a little info :

i have taken of the stock heatsink and fan. i have placed ram sinks as supplied with the ac accelro s1 rev2. you also get a strip heatsink with the cooler for the VRM part of a card. however i butchered this when i had a 8800gt into small 2 fin sinks which i have applied to the vrm part of the card. to apply the sinks i would recomend buying some thermal double sided sticky as the ones supplied are rubbish, mind you the stuff i bought wasnt much better but they seem to holding.

if you are going to get the acellero you might want to trry like this guy

use the base of the stock cooler for cooling ram etc... in fact might still do that if temps arent that ***

also read fudzillas article http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8500&Itemid=1 abou the importance of cooling the vrms.

i have also attached a 120mm noctua 800rpm fan on it attached with cable ties.

when i was trying to attach the backplate for the acellero i couldnt get the dam thing on so i didnt use it in the end, not sure if this will be ok, any suggestions welcome.

please note open case and coolish room uk.

ok i havent had time yet to fully test the temps as in middle of a rebuild.

idle temps are:
gpu sensor 1: 45
gpu sensor 2: 53
gpu sensor 3: 42

ati tool scan for artifacts for 6 mins with fan at 5v so around 390rpm gpuz reads:

gpu sensor 1: 74 and climbing
gpu sensor 2: 88.5 and climbing
gpu sensor 3: 74.5 and climbing

had to abort it didnt like what i was seeing not enought cooling

ati tool scan for artifacts for 15 mins with fan at 12v so around 800rpm gpuz reads:

gpu sensor 1: 63.5
gpu sensor 2: 75.5
gpu sensor 3: 63

seems pretty stable temps not sure what to do, might add a sycthe slipstream 1200 fan and crank it up for gameing and undervolt for everything else. also might try with the red base on.

also noticed i am getting a strange noise when running ati tool like a very quiet ambulance alarm? any help on that would be greatly appreciated.
