• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

4870 Crossfire overkill for 1680x1050?

I would dearly love to know what folk out there do to get the gains they are stating.

Try forcing it to use multi-GPU, rather than letting it select automatically.

To your crysis shortcut, add: +r_MultiGPU 1

eg, for the default install location, right click on the shortcut, go to properties, and change to:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe +r_MultiGPU 1

Note though that proper multi-GPU support was not added until patch 1.1 (I think...), so if you're running just the demo version for the benchmark you won't see any improvement. I think there is a box in the benchmarking tool where you can add the r_MultiGPU=1 command also.

Thanks for that. So do you think the 2 cards is a worthwhile investment at my screen res then? Ignore Crysis, that's just a poorly coded game.

For all things other than Crysis (and I will try the aforementioned suggestion by Fartypants later tonight to see if I can get some 2 card gains), I have been really impressed with my 2 x 4850 combo.

I'm seeing huge gains in GRID, UT3, COD4 and BF2.

Can't really comment much outside of this arena though so it's a qualified opinion.
