hi just wanted to let ppl know that im using 2x 4870 in crossfire and its bloody amazing.
i now can play crysis @ 2560by1600 all very high settings with cfg hack.
its smooth as hell and looks really good.
my 8800 ultra superclocked watercooled couldnt get close.
both cards @ 790 1100. will post some screenies.

Any micro-stutter?
I'm thinking of doing just this so it'd be great if you could provide more details of your setup/benchies etc.

my setup is asus rampage formula mobo
4 gig ocz flex 2 watercooled memory. running 1160 mhz.
E8500 @ 4150 mhz watercooled.
2x sapphire 4870 @ 790gpu 1100 mem. soon to be watercooled.
2x500 gig hitachi drives stripped raid 0.
mountain mods case.
1000 watt psu coolmaster realpower.
dell 3007 30 inch tft.

Cheers mate.
Same mobo and processor as i'll shortly be ordering. It obviously all works well then.
I was waiting for the 4870x2 but aaaargh i dunno now.
:confused::confused:

i was going to wait for the x2 4870 as well.
but they get very hot dont think the x2 will overclock much.
in a way glad i got 2 seperate cards.
every game i have played max settings 2560by1600 all run amazing.
grid looked very smooth and clear. was going to sell my 3007 monitor glad i didnt now. ;)

Amazing scores :D
I'm a complete noob to crossfire. Do you think most games are supported? Do you install the OS with 1 card, then add the second?
Do you use the Rampage's daughter-board sound card or a full size one? Is there room for either of them?
I can only game at 1920x1200 so i reckon a bit of AA and AF and 2 4870's will work well.

most games i have tried run really good with crossfire. just install both cards use both bridges and install normal way.
when in windows install graphic drivers then reboot.
just click on crossfire then apply then its finished.
i had a creative x-fi seperate sound card but forever ran into probs so i ebayed it.
i use the separate card that comes with mobo its very good dont think ill upgrade because its small and does the job well.
even with crossfire the re is room to put optional soundcard above first graphic card. these cards still give good frame rates with AA enabled. hope this helps.

It does help Dazboots thanks.
I'm at that stage where i have a list drawn up for what i'll be ordering but keep tinkering. Was thinking of 4870x2 but now reckon i'll crossfire 2x4870's. Think i may use the SupremeFX II Audio Card rather than an alternative. Unless anyone can convince me otherwise of course.
Damn you Dazboots for converting me to crossfire ;)

Those screens are lurvely.. currently got a 3870x2 which I'm about to bay ready for the 4870x2.

Would you mind running the crysis benchmark at 1920x1080 res (high and ultra high) please mate and posting a screenie. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

The 3870x2 just didnt quite cut it and had to stop playing it.

Cheers

Dazboots doesn't have a 4870x2, he has 2x4870 in CF.
I think that's what you meant really.
Confusing all this nomenclature innit? ;)

The 4870x2 could trounce 2 4870's in CF.

Damned awsome. Way to go i reckon.
And all for less than the price of one GTX280?

Show me where you can get two HD4870's for less than £153 a pop inc vat then I'll consider your statement true.

Well it was probably true when he bought the two 4870's ;)

And I just got my 4870 for £176 = £342 which is cheaper than all but the Leadtek GTX280.
