Hi guys, received my 4870 yesterday, have it all plugged in and crunching those frames in crysis.

Now I have just this morning tried to get hdmi working, the picture is going to my Toshiba 42xv503db just fine but no audio is getting passed through.

Anyone know why this is?

Any thing special I should be doing?

Rob

LOL I've checked settings on my tv but cant get audio on the tv. Do i need a seperate cable for this?

Shouldn't do - that is the point with the ATI 3000 and 4000 range - they can carry the sound and video over HDMI which is what it was designed for really.

I've got mine connected up to a Samsung BDX 32" and you just switch to whichever HDMI channel it is connected to & it will pick up the sound & video together (or in my case pass it through to the sony surround sound :D).

Thats what I thought. My TV is an LG 26LC2R-ZJ, and is fully HD compatible so thought it would work.

Is HDMI Audio set as the default playback on your pc?

Right click on the speaker in the taskbar and go to playback devices.

Just tried settings the HDMI audio as default but nothing. It says its fully working, and can see the bar next to the HDMI audio option, moving up and down as if sounds playing. But nothings coming out of my TV speakers.

When I plug my DVI to HDMI cable in, ATI CC recognises the connection but displays the following message;

"An HDMI to DVI display connection has been detected. In order to hear audio on your HDMI based TV or display, you will need to have a separate audio connection from your computer sound outputs to your TV or audio equipment."

Don't know if this means anything to anyone.

All my PC is setup as normal, speakers plugged into the green socket on my X-Fi card, DVI to DVI cable is plugged in on the left hand connection (looking straight on at the back of my PC) on my HD4870, and the Plexus Gold Plated HDMI To DVI-D Dual Link Cable is plugged in on the right hand side.

No, I bought a Plexus Gold Plated HDMI To DVI-D Dual Link Cable which connects directly to the HDTV and HD4870.

Would it be an issue with drives? I only installed the updated drivers (8.6) and not the hotfix.

Just tried my HDMI Cable connecting my DVD player to TV using the adapter. Worked with no error message about sound this time too. Thanks for all your help guys. Will have to try and sell my DVI to HDMI cable and get hold of a HDMI to HDMI cable.

On another note, the picture on my TV at 1680 x 1050 slighty cuts off the edges. What setting do I need to change in CC to adjust the picture slightly without lowering the resolution. If there is one.

Hey Guys,

Didn't realise this thread had been revived. Heres a quick run through of how I work it:

1. plug HDMI cable into adapter on the card and plug the other end of the cable into the telly, ensure picture is displayed.

2. right click speaker icon in taskbar and select playback devices, choose digital output HDMI (ensure green tick is now on this device).

3. start the program or software which you wanted to use for playback of sound or video, take note if the application is running whilst you do the above changes it will not transmit sound through the new playback device, simply restart the program!

I think it is a bit of a pain but I'll get used to it, as most of the time i'll only be using my telly to watch blu rays through.

Rob

Hope that helps everyone.

Thanks dude, sorry for hijacking your thread.
Can't believe it was something silly like the adapter causing the proble, serves me right for trying to make things easier.

Just need to sort out the picture now.

You say you watch BluRays through the PC on your HDTV, what software do you use? and out of curiosity what drive do you have?
