4870 HDMI sound?

I use power dvd ultra 8 and have a Lite on Blu Ray Drive, works really well. I do however now need surround sound :(

Thanks, would love to get the full effect of HD with BluRay, might wait for the films to drop in price first.
As for surround sound, don't tempt me, I'm supposed to be saving to repay a loan. Last thing I need is getting tempted to get hold of surround sound and a Blu Ray drive......:p

I have an HDMI - DVI cable into my PC.

Could I play sound from the DVI connection with any kind of adapter?

I used the adapter that came with my HD4870 and a HDMI cable; that managed to get the sound onto the TV.
For some reason I couldnt get it with a HDMI - DVI cable

Because DVI isn't designed to carry sound signals :) The ATI cards have managed to get the signal out of their cards through the connector but you must use the adapter for it to be able to be taken to a TV. Eventually graphic cards will just have HDMI connections on the back and all TVs & Monitors will use a single type of connection.

Just got my HDMI cable and works a treat now.
How can I sort out the picture though, it seems to cut off the very edges of the screen. Nothing major but would be nice to set it up correctly

This depends on your TV. a lot of TV's use overscan to cut off anything between 5 and 15% off the edges when watching movies. You either need to change the overscan %. Could be an option on your tv's remote which is fairly common, or you may have to google to see if you can get into your tv's service menus and adjust it there.

Just found the scan setting in CCC, lowered it slightly and all fits on now....will that effect the overall HD picture quality?

On a relatively small screen I doubt you will notice any change in the picture from forcing overscan to a different percentage

There is probably a theoretical softening of the picture but very few would notice it
