just looking at getting a new gfx card, maybe a 4870 1024mb (upgrading from a 4850 512mb) - i think i will notice a diff as it uses GDDR5

i have looked at the page on OCers and there are like 9 brands of it, huh? whats the diff between the £144 one and the £190 one? just a diff case, warranty and fan? is it really worth spending an extra £50?

Lol is it me, or is it poitnless that there is more than one variety of the same card avaiable as they both have the same clock speeds??

I would get the cheapest card as that is on this weeks offer,it will go back up to around 190+ after, and i would think they almost all the same really.

+1

there is HD4870 on sale for £166 with new fan!

but I wouldn't upgrade from 4850 to 4870...
save money for better card!

I had 4870 Oc edition (800mhz/3800mhz) was not very happy with it, now upgrade to gtx280

the this weeks offer is an awesome offer at the moment and is officially the cheapest 4870 1gb in the coutry from any retailer/etailer, also sapphire are responsible for 70% of all ATI's cards sold so i would say they a very safe bet :)

Definitely cheap and an awesome offer, just make sure:
1) You need the performance &
2) What they deliver works...

I've still got a shi**y sapphire 1950pro in the loft that I should have RMA'ed because it never worked at stock speeds, if I underclocked it by 10MHz it was fine but at stock it froze after 5mins no matter what. I changed my original 400w PSU for an Antec 500w still no joy. In the end I put it in the loft and bought a NVidia 8800GT or 9800GT as they are known now. It worked fine of both my PSU's.
