4870 jerky graphics playing sim

I have a 4870 512 Sapphire v/c
intel E6850@3GHZ O/C TO 3.50
26" VIEWSONIC LCD
2GB CRUCIAL MEM.
I play a sim called Battle of Britain,and the graphics seems jerky,and stops for a spit second every now and then.
Am using ATI drivers 9.1,but have tried several other drivers down to 8.6,but seem to have the same problem.
My v/c doesnt get above 40% on full load,i have the S1 Rev2 cooler on it,and 120 fan.
Could do with some help on this please,as you guys know your stuff.

AF=16x
Catalyst A1= Advanced
Mipmap Detail Level =Quality
Vertical Refresh=Always On
Adaptive Anti Aliasing=Disabled
Triple Buffering=Disabled

What psu do you have? do you monitor your cards temps? if so what re they under load? (e.g. playing a game)

My GPU-Z Monitor under load when playing game is
GPU TEMP DISPO=36%
" " MEMIO 44%
" " SHADERCORE=41%

VDDC SLAVE1 TEMP=54%
" " 2 TEMP=57%
" " 3 TEMP=52%

Are you running GPUZ in the background when you're getting the jerky gameplay? Any time I have it running I get little freezes in games. Seems to coincide with the update of the readings in GPUZ.

I havent ticked the GPU-Z in the bottom left hand corner for it to run in the background,so no,i dont have it running.
I know what you mean though.
I havent anything running in the background to my knowledge,also i turn off my anti-virus as well.
It does get on my nerves the jerkyness and split second freezes.
