4870 massively underperforming

I saw the same between e2***, e6*** and e8*** ranges - quite a difference at identical clocks.

And you're right n1kunj - the CPU will probably bottleneck it a touch.

A couple of years back i was only 2500 points off your score with an opteron 165 @ 3ghz and a 7950GX2.

That said it's about gaming rather than benchin... what res do you play at and are you happy with the results?

I'm gaming at 1920x1200, primarily COD4 and BF and I get constantly 60fps+ maxed out on both which is all that really matters - I just got worried when I saw other people benchies and their 8800GTXs nearing 12k 06 turf and thought my card was being bad.

At 1280x1024 you'll be CPU bound as you've already found out. At 1600x1200+, the 3Ghz speed you have should be letting you see near to the full potential of the card. I think if you upgraded your CPU that you'd see an increase but not much.

I have the 4870 and my CPU speed is similar to yours. I think I'm seeing most of the cards potential but a few games would get a few FPS boost from a CPU upgrade but nothing ground breaking.

Have you tried comparing games FPS (without vsync) at higher resolutions (1600x1200/1920x1200) with faster systems to see if you're CPU is holding you back at all?.
