4870 on the way....psu doubts

Just bought the XFX Radeon 4870 1GB. My current specs are as follows:

-Q6600 B3 @ 3GHz + arctic freezer 7 pro
-4GB DDR2 PC6400
-8600GT 256MB
-Nforce 650i Ultra

-2x250GB SATA2 (sys/work)
-1x500GB (bkp)

I however have the Antec Sonata 3 case with the 500W PSU that came with it. Shall I beef it up? I do have a Tagan 430W kicking around, I doubt if that helps though.

A decent 500W would be enough for that system. I assume that the one you've got is decent?

I would think even a cheap 500w Antec PSU should do you OK - but if you do get any issues, that's probably where to point the finger first...

Don't have the case myself but know someone who had regular crashes with it after they installed a beefy card. Might as well leave it and see what happens.

Yes I have lot's of power and front to back cooling, filters etc. I shall suck it and see.

500w fine here, 2 HDD 1 optical and assorted other chaff. Last time I measured it my system pulled about 360W under extreme load, of course it depends on the PSU but my guess is you will be fine.
