4870 or GTX 260

imo having had the 512 mb 4870 though good I'd get the 216-260. However, If you can afford it I'd probably go for the 1gb radeon. Its a little cheaper and against some if not nearly all overclocked 260's it'll pip them to the post.
 
If you go for the ATI card you could crossfire it later, in their own right though they`re about the same performance wise, depending on the benchmark you read ;)

You don`t read many bad comments regarding the maxcores though :\
 
Tbh i think he would be happy with either, pretty much similar. Look at the games you play whatever card is really faster get that :)
 
Thats the latest review i have seen but tbh either the 48701gb or the gtx260 maxcore would do you proud but if that review is on the latest drivers i would be going for the 48701gb. The thing is the gtx260 216 overclocks really well so keep that in mind. If you ain't a big over clocker then 48701gb it is.
 
GTX260 - at stock they are both pretty much on par, but the GTX260 overclocks proportionately better, and the new 180 series driver set is supposed to bring big gains so... :D
 
Depends on what you play, look at reviews for the games you play otherwise your gonna get fan answers to either card here.
