How are every ones 4870s overclocking? Mine is running at 860\1000 with just a flash to that asus bios that allows upto 900mzh in CCC. Is 860mhz a good overclock on water?

Ive been considering changing my 512mb card for the 1gb version as im gaming at much higher resolutions now. Just a cant help feel ive be a little disappointed if the 1gb card i get doesnt oc anywhere near a much as my current card.

So what sort of overclocks are you guys getting from you 4870s?

Got mine to 790 core and 1050 mem, is it hard to flash a gpu bios any risk...

dont do it ! ! if its working good dont do it as you stand a chance of busting the card.

look for the recent thread on here, classic example, you are able to flash back to origional bois but is it really worth the hassle, ask yourself that.

go on, ask yourself

asked myself, yes

They do but i think there is a thread already for this if you search.

did a quick search but didnt see anything

I need to update my sig.. run it at 800/900 now - just not worth overclocking the card that much for the few FPS and 3d mark points you get.

And when thats not good enough will just add another for crossfire!

I'm currently running my Powercolor ATI Radeon 4870 1024MB at 790MHz Core and 900MHz (Stock) for the memory, that is using the Overclocking utility in Catalyst Control Centre. I can run 3D Mark no problem at all. However, when I use Rivatuner, if I set the Core clock anywhere above 780MHz, when I run 3D Mark, it seems to default straight back to 780MHz if it is set above that and I'm not entirely sure why.

Does anyone know why it is doing this? Thank you. :)

Good overclock and a good card its stable. I didn't gain a single Mhz going to water, just a cooler gpu and no fan noise.

You can probably do a lot more on your memory yet, close to 1100Mhz should be possible for a lot of cards.

My 4870 max stable oc is 839/1095. It will run vantage at 875Mhz, 3dmark06 at 850 but any more than 839 and you get yellow dots in ATI tool.

Also I can't run my memory at 1100Mhz as it is just a yellow mess and hangs.

Just goes to show that heat is not the issue with the 4870 overclocks, just how lucky you are with the card. WHat it needs is more voltage but I am yet to find a bios which offers more voltage which is a shame since my card maxes out at 37C under water and I am sure it could offer a lot more if it just got the juice.

You could oc the memory by nearly another 100mhz!
