I was thinking about getting a ATI 4850 but i've seen somewhere here that the Gigabyte HD4870 GV-R4875HB 512MB listed at about £183.60. I was under the impression that they were going to be about the £200+ mark.

If it really is that price then they could be cheaper than expected.

Fingers crossed as it would make a good upgrade from my 7800GT :)

Well using ocuk to stay within the rules:

4850 = $199 = £135.11 (cheapest for now)

Therefore:

4870 512Mb = $299 = £203.00

Ocuk has them up for 30 secs on launch day for £211+

I would expect prices to be around that for a while until the 9800GTX+ comes out and prices settle down to maybe £190ish been the cheapest

Absolute cheapest they possibly could be at straight $/£ conversion plus VAT is £180.00 dead. However, you never ever get straight conversion on anything.

they will drop prices in about 2 weeks or so when there will be second batch of cards

Yeah this pretty much always happens, no point getting it on release day when the prices are over inflated.

Only reason to get it on release day is if you can't wait or just want to brag about getting it first.

Or you sold your card weeks ago and gaming on an internal Intel Extreme graphics and just can't wait any longer.:p

I'm not that worried about it, I've had this card for a couple years now so a week or two isn't going to hurt and bragging about a computer isn't high on my agenda :) I was just wondering if maybe the launch price was going to be a bit lower on the 4870 after what I saw.
