I fitted mine today and have a few questions.

I cant overclock it with rivatune, can I mod riva to do it?

The temps dont show up in everest, should they?

Would you rather have a 4870X2 or 2 x 4870 CF?

Isn't the next update to Rivertuner going to cover the 4870? Not sure if they are quite there yet. I haven't checked everest, but the temps show up in the catalyst CC.

X2 all the way, but the prices have to get sensible first. Give it a month. Once the price falls, hopefully the 4870 prices will remain reasonable to allow for good sales.

Rivatuner not updated yet to handle the 4870. Last I read was it was meant to be out by the end of July. He has obviously ran into problems re-writing it but hopefully it will appear soon.

Ah ok thought I saw some shots of Rivatuner clocking a 4870. What are people using to clock passed 790 on the core?

The X2 has to be below £340 before its worth it over 4870 CF I think as in the benchmarks the CF seems to have a slight edge, maybe 8.8 will sort that.

Thanks

That amd gpu overclocking tool or in my case I just flashed with the Asus 4870 bios which then allows you to use overdrive in CCC to go past 800/1100.

Plus it has a much, much better fan profile in that bios too.

Thanks.

Does your 4870 sqeal under load? Mine makes a lot of high pitched noise when running the ATi Tools test. Mines a Club3d.

Stop the fan with your finger, making sure it spins back up when you release. If it's not that then it's likely one of the capacitors.
