Any comparisons between these floating around - I know, I know, the GTX is sooooo old hat now

kinda waiting to see the X2, but fancied a read-up to whet my appetite......

4870 is a better card if buying from scratch but I certainly wouldn't consider ditching a 8800GTX for those that have one already - in fact I'd strongly consider adding a secondhand one for SLI goodness if possible. That blows everything out of the water, including the GTX280.

I was gonna consider trying 2 8800gts in sli, what with prices now. but sadly my 680i board has went kaput. so ive ordered a p45 board and may try a 4870, seeing as ive never owned an ati card before. plus it seems to be a good card for my res (1920x1200) at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the input - must admit I can see no *proper* reason to move from my trusty GTX ;) guess it must just be the upgrade twitch......still, perhaps the X2 will be something to consider......as for SLi, mobo doesn't support so no go there

I in the last 2 days have added a second GTX to my rig, and im pleased with the results!

Consider the SLi option imo m8.

I agree with this. If you have a SLI mobo and a GTX already then picking up a 2nd one for £90 is the way forward.

Two 8800GTX in SLI is a pretty awesome setup. ;)

I've just upgraded from an 8800gtx to a 4870. Sold the 8800gtx for £110 already - still waiting for the 4870 to arrive.

However, I only had an Asus Commando mobo so SLI wasn't an option for me. I have bough an Asus Maximus Formula SE to open the door to xfire in the future though :-) (And a Q6600 + 300gb Velociraptor - this always happens when I do a "small" upgrade!)

As C64 said, the more frequently you upgrade, the more you get for your old parts. This round of upgrades cost me £640 but I've got £310 for all my old parts, making the upgrade less than the cost of a GTX 280!
