Hi guys,

I'm considering a graphics card upgrade but i can't make up my mind on what to do. The way i see it, i'm already using an Asus ATI 4870 512mb Graphics Card which is quite good but i was considering upgrading to a single 4870 X2 card, but i have heard that 4900's should be out within the next several months and i was wondering if it is worth upgrading to an X2 now or waiting until the 4900's hit the shelves?

laters,

Myth.

If you need an upgrade due to a lack of performance then go for it but if your system can run games to your satisfaction then I'd wait. The X2, ideally, is more for the 1900x1200+ resolutions.

Sapphire may even do a 4GB= 2GB per GPU of the 4890X2.

thats exactly the reason why i'm considering waiting because it is just my luck that i will go out and by an X2 at the end of the month and then a new upgrade will come out that will completely decimate the upgrade that i just made. thats why i'm happy that i left it aslong as i did to upgrade my hard drives, i was going to go for some samsug F1's but since then i saw the Samsung SSD's come out and boy am i glad that i waited and did'nt rush into anything.

yeah but i don't think that their has ever been a better time to buy a HD monitor than now, the viewsonic 24" HD monitor is going for less than £250 on OCuk, i remember a time when crt monitors of that size would go for around £700 if not more.

If your monitor can go to it then I'd seriously consider getting one.

Unless you're having problems then wait. The prices will only go one way for current top end cards once the next gen ones are out. Personally I'd go with a second 4870 512mb/1gb card in crossfire rather than replacing the current one with an x2.
