Which 4870 has the best stock cooling solution, preferably one that vents out of the case ?

Its for a shuttle XPC, or would it be better to go for a GTX 260 which seems a lot cooler and virtually all vent out of the case ?

Check the length of the GTX260/280 first, it might be too long for most shuttles! Also make sure a duel slot cooler will fit (with the smaller XPC's it wont) but I'm guessing yours is the larger SP 400w+ version.

I'd either get the HIS 4780 currently on offer or a cheap 260.

Just so you know its easy to make a hd4870 run cool with a simple fan tweak. Ati have made the fan run so slow that the cards run hot bump it up a little. After doing this from what i have seen they run every bit as cool as a gtx260. If i were you i would stretch to the hd48701gb version which is currently at £199.99 on here.

Its the SX48P2 Deluxe so should fit either card.

Has the driver issue with vista and multiple monitors been solved with the latest ATI drivers ??

get 4870 1 gig it vents out hot air from a case

As does the 512mb HD4870 and the GTX260.

For reference the GTX260 is 27cm long. It is quite 'fat' as well in the sense that the cooler takes up the entire length and width of the card.

Personally if both cards fit check out some recent reviews (must be recent due to the new drivers from both camps improving performance) and get the card that will suit you the best.
