I'm pretty sure it's a power error. Can you change any cables around in your case? Like swap over the PCI-E ones to see if that's the issue?

Also, try the card with just the one PCI-E cable, try both sockets to see if the LED remains on, I think that'd be a quick way of testing if it's a power error.

Tried all the above, not a sausage. Except when I take the 4pin connector out the motherboard then the gpu doesnt work properly.

Getting my mate to pop over with his rig to try and fix it, but still... if i have to rma it im back home for xmas and all the boxes etc are at uni accomo :/ Which I wont be going to for another month. No pc for me? lol

As far as I know, you don't actually have to return a faulty item in its original packaging, just make sure it's well packaged to protect it from damage in case one of the royal mail trolls gets hold of it and chews on it.

well it is my gfx card :) my mates 8800gtx works fine and mine doesnt work in his rig.

Gah, borrowing a 7800gt off him for now untill I get a reply from my webnote :)

Thanks for giving me some hope mate ;)

i presume theres sposed to be a pic in your post? :P

tis defo not the power led's among the four as today after id had sleep (i was shattered yesterday and raged at my pc) i was able to read that its defo d601 which means dead card :(

FOr anyone that wants full listing on what the lights mean:

"D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault
D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed
D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed
D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault"

Just for reference :)

so im on a 7800gt untill the end of jan till I can get the reciept/box :(

sucks a bit :/

Ouch! I had to go from a 3870X2 to an X1600 for about 3 months, was painful, couldn't(wouldn't :p) play many of my games at decent settings at 1920x1200 :o

I'm really pretty sure you don't need the box and receipt though? Did you buy it online? You can just go to the place you bought it from, apply for an RMA, as the order will still be on your account/their system, and arrange for it to be sent back to be tested. Any old box should do as long as it protects it from damage.

That's cool, thanks

Is that just for 4870s, or does it apply to 4850s too?

it was from ocuk shop, paid by card. Guy on phone chuckled and said Id have to wait :/

id like confirmation if i have to give proof of purchase or anything though. Id send it off tomorrow if I could. A month + start of uni with no decent gfx card :(

And this 7800 is ******* noisy. >.>

Im not sure kylew - I found it on another forum - they claimed it came from sapphire, but upon searching the sapphire tech webby, I couldn't find it :/

I would imagine it could be applied to 4850's too.
