Is there a 1Gb version of the 4870X2?

There are references to it on Google (can't get into links in work - Websense) but can't see it in any retailers?

Just had a quick search and found this
radeon_4870x2_gpuz.jpg

Would it be that the memory on both "cards" has to mirror each other to work under cross-fire meaning the effective total memory of both equals 1GB ?

Just like with any implementation of SLi and CrossFire, the physical amount of memory available might be 2GB, but this memory is divided and dedicated to each GPU, which is why it shows as 1GB.

GPU-Z shows memory available for each core, you can see the drop down box at the bottom of that window, if you click it you will see another 'ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2' selectable with another 1024mb or Memory.
