I have just done the 120mm fan mod on my 4870X2, Idle temps are down and no more insane fan spinning noise, played COD4 for half and hour and the temps reached 88 C, is this ok? I forgot to check what it was with the standard cooling.

I didn't get any artefacts and idle temps are 48-50 C on each core, the best thing is its totally silent with the Akasa fan.

From what I am lead to believe, the cards can run without throttling up to 105c. I am unsure on your Room and case temperature, but 88c seems kinda high but well within what is perfectly fine.

I wouldn't worry as long as you don't plan on overclocking it and are happy with the silence :)

Well the case sides are off so the air from my other fans isn't channel'd onto the card.

I'm very happy with the silence, 8 x 120mm fans of which I have 2 more to upgrade to Sharkoons.

Thanks guys

88c is hotter than mine gets loading with the stock cooler, although I do have some fan profiles set up.

I think mine runs toasty tbh, the stock cooling cools well but is too noisy for me.

My idle temps are now 43 & 46, this is down from 69 C.

Tbh I think idle temps are more important, especially if you spend most of your time browsing the web or doing anything other than playing games. 88c is on par with many of the 4870's on stock cooling.

Big differences in temperature even on the same model, still awaiting someone with knowledge to explain if reseating the heatsink would help.
