well i went onto the corsair home page and put in my system for the recomended psu for a
4870x2
cpu
1 hardrive
cpu upto 30% overclocked
and it comes back with my hx520 will cope no bother with it,but i was looking on this review at guru and third of the way down it gives figures of
system under load 423 watts is that just the card or what its testing the card on aswell cheers, here is the review page

My system for example pulls around 460w under heavy load.

IMO, a 520 is pushing it.

We had a thread about this already this week.

Whole system, never heard of a gfx card pulling in that much.

Whole system with a 2900xt is about 300w tops I think, two would probably be close to your figure there.
I'll see if I can find an old chart for you

A psu wont be 100% efficent btw so you need a leeway, add 20% plus spikes, etc

CPU vs GPU power needs

I think I might have a similar psu actually. Mine will ramp upto 600w for a minute if needed, I reckon your'll be ok

I always think it is better to spend a bit extra and have complete piece of mind when it comes to psu's hence why i bought the corsair way too much for what i need but i never need to worry about it.

my hx520 has 2x6-pin but with extra 2-pin connected to it to make them both 8-pin if you know what i mean so that would be ok for a 4870x2 then wouldnt it,i.e a 6-pin and 8-pin

so how can i go about seeing how much watts im using at full load cheers

You can purchase a watt/energy meter.
I have one of these: Clicky,
B&Q sell them as well I think.
