Afternoon,

My current GFX card is the 4870x2. I haven't had a real issue with this card but i just wanted to know my options in regards to upgrades.

Is there anything out at the moment that can offer me a boost from what i already have?

Budget wise, no more then £350.

Thanks.

wait a couple of weeks for the new 69xx series to be released :)

I have the same card. It's still a very good card. My only gripe with the card is that it runs very hot. If your adamant on upgrading probably worth waiting till 69xx series comes out or even waiting for nVidia to bring out there new range.

On the market right now nothing 6970 might be worth a look long as they don't price them retardly otherwise duel 6870 ***.

^^^as above 6970 will the card to have in £350 range.

Or if u enjoy crossfire two 6870 for 350£ if u can find them.

Drivers/crossfire profiles are getting better all the time.

I went from a 4870X2 to a 480 and it was a very nice upgrade. Being able to run games with 32XAA and TRSAA was a massive plus in terms of image quality. It really does look stunning and the hit to the frames @ 32xAA is about the same as 8xAA which hardly effects the 480. One thing the 480 does really well is handle quality AA and hardly takes a hit unlike the 4870X2 which takes a big hit in demanding games when you ramp up the AA. Games ran allot smoother, vsync worked in all games unlike my 4870X2. I got better frames in terms of max and minimum. I also got game profiles which was also a very nice plus. DX11 support was nice to have and physx was also a nice bonus.

:)

Thanks for the advice guys!

I've been looking at getting a 480 for a while and after reading Razor Time's review, i'm leaning towards getting that but will wait for the 6970 to be released and check the reviews then.

Thanks.

I have the same card and apart from AA in some games it still seems to be handling things well. So I've got two years service out of it, can't be bad. Not certain if I'll upgrade this year but if I were to then I'd look at (bit of guess work here) a 6970 or above, or one of the nvidia equivalent cards. Would ideally like to eek it out until something like Doom 4 arrives but that could be a while. :)

In fact it would be interesting to see frame rate difference with a newer cpu. I was wondering if any q6600 owners have kept their X2's and after a cpu upgrade noticed anything worth mentioning. This was one of my thoughts since I still wonder if I am not getting the maximum out of it. Curiosity more than anything else.

I've still got my 4870x2 with my i7 rig and I still have no reason whatsoever to upgrade. You only miss dx11, but I can live with that and save myself £350! It does everything I want it to do. Just don't read the graphics card forum, what you don't know about you won't miss!

wait for 6970 should be nice boost from your 4870x2 , or if you want to go dual card road once again wait fro 6990 , anything less wouldn't be worth it as the gain would be insignificant
