I am currently using a 4870x2, I am wondering if I could put a standard 4870 into my pc to have crossfire if so does it matter what make. Also I have a 850watt PSU will it be able to manage it.

You can indeed as long as you have a crossfire motherboard. If you're going to, make sure it's a 1GB version as if it's a 512MB card, your X2's RAM will be limited to 512MB as it has to be the same across all cards.

This is a bad time to invest in the current gen of graphics though, and also the benefit of the extra card might not be worth the cost. It depends on the settings you're running at.

It will be fine at the moment. What you'll be able to buy in say a month's time should cost around £140 and chances are will be more performance than 4870X2.
