I was looking at buying a new 7970 along with a hazro 27 " to play games at hi res . At the moment i have a dell 2407 (1920x1200) and a gainward 4870x2 glh. Now after reading the prices that the new cards are going to cost , i have backtracked on my ideas .
I'll wait till Keplar for some competition to bring down prices . a freind has a 4870x2 i can have for £50 but knowing they are power hungarry i was wondering if my psu can handle it considering i have a overclocked i2500k ... I have a corsair xt 850 . What do you guys reckon ????

I have no idea what that psu is and neither does google? Sure it's an xt850? not hx or ax?

I would guess though, that as it is a very reputable brand and it's 850 watts, you will be fine.

Just stick with a single 4870x2 for now. It's a bad idea to go 4 GPUs, as it is not only power hungry, hot running, but has high chance of micro-shuttering as well...which can make the game more jerky and unplayable despite having higher frame rate than just one 4870x2.

Your best bet is probably wait for 7950 1.5GB, and hopefully it should be at just around £300 or may be a tiny bit more than that.

Maybe consider a very cheap second hand 4870 for tri-fire, I think your psu should be ok. Failing that, look at the 7850 / lower end 7900's when they materialize.
