So what do you reckon then:

Those black bits tend to flicker very fast and are random, it also happens in BF2.

I've tried checking the cooler, installed different drivers but the result is the same.

Just stock speeds never bothered to OC it, I figure it might be the memory or something.

I'm also thinking its the Memory, as overclocked cards tend to do that.

RMA Time, I'd try some new Drivers first though.

Yeah I had already tried some drivers just to make sure but it still turned up.

I do sometimes wonder if the memory is getting to hot, the fan doesn't seem to speed up much and the chance of me tightening the plate any more isn't likely.

All I can think of is perhaps give it a clean..or you could try ramsinks however I doubt it'll be the answer though they are cheap to buy. Other than that probably rma time.

well considering its still running, try downclocking the memory and speed individually. if this solve the issue then deffo rma it.

does it happen with all games?
have you tried furmark?

If in BF2 the black bits are bigger and seem to be part of the terrain, as opposed to randomly being over the screen, then try different Cat AI settings. But looking at the screens you posted it does look like possibly a hardware or over heating issue. :(

I think it's being caused by the moisture from the tears your powerful graphics card is crying as it's made to run a game with such outdated graphics. :p

In all seriousness though that looks like overheating if it is not there 100% of the time (try turning on vsync so it doesn't draw that game at 300+ fps) or if it's permanent your memory is on it's way out.

The screws on the back of the card are just ****, just another set of soft heads it seems however I've checked and also tightened them a bit. Going to do some more testing tonight to see if it has helped, I'll also drop the clock speed down if problem reappears.

As for the games while WoW, BF2 and OpenTTD are my main current ones I could check on games such as L4D2, Crysis Warhead, etc but it isn't really needed at the moment.

It is outside it's RMA period and if it comes down to it I'll use my spare 8800 GTS card for a while then get a ATi 5870 or something.

Well in WoW I've tested alt-tabbing out and reduced the Memory/GPU clocks, after some more testing it seems reducing the memory clocks results in the black blocks not appearing.

Have you cleaned out the fan and heatsink on the card, if it isn't glitching when you have underclocked it, then it's probably due to the card overheating..

Try getting more airflow in your case, and over the card to see if that fixes it.

How much did you have to underclock the RAM to stop this from happening?

I'll have to test some more to find the exact figure although my base to find out was a drop from 900 to 725, although it did appear slightly less when using a clock between the two.

The card is clean, airflow is ok as well although I still can't shake the feeling the issue while being related to heat isn't purely down to it since the way the card acts in terms of load.

Getting the cooler of again would require me to drill one of the screws as well.
