4870X2 problems with Formula Force, using 2nd PCIE slot and not first PCIE Slot

All,

My 4870X2 stopped working, and having tried to diagnose the problem there seems to be a fault on the PCIE 16 slot it was residing in.

I moved the 4870 and put in into the 2nd PCIE slot on my MB (ASUS Formula Force)

The PC will now boot with graphics, but has Vista decided it needed a VGA driver install and loaded basic drivers for it.

Not a problem I thought I'll just re-install Catalyst drivers and all will be good.

But that has not been the case. The ATI drivers now refuse to work, they seem to install fine without any errors, but once back into Vista, I can't access CCC, even normal display properties only thinks I have one monitor and won't let me set up the screen correctly. Can't access resolutions above 1600*1200

If I look at the display driver it says it just has the standard VGASave display driver installed.

The machine boots and will enter windows, so the MB must be recognising the GFX in the second slot.

Does anyone know if there is a problem with using the second PCIE slot without a card in the first one?

Is there a bios setting I need to change to get the second PCIE slot working better.

Do the ATI drivers need something set to work with just the second PCIE slot.

Any help appreciated, if I wasn't already bald I'd be tearing my hair out by now.

Thanks

OK problem, solved.
Number of reboots and numerous reinstalls seems somehow to have cured the problem.

Not sure what it was, but just happy its working again.
