Got a new 4870x2 to replace a bust 8800gtx yesterday, installed and testing it today and having major issues...

It's fine in 2d but artefacts all over the place the moment I start a game (tried crysis, mass effect, cod4) even during the intro movie and then crashes/reboots/shuts down a few seconds later.

I'm guessing it's my PSU - 580W Tagan, I know that's a little lower than recommended but had seen a few reviews with a full system using <450W.

So dodgy card needing RMA or probably the PSU? If the PSU then what do you recommend - looking at a corsair tx750.

If you want to try to establish where the fault lies you could Underclock your cpu to reduce the load and see if it helps. Might make the difference.

If the Tagan is being pushed I would imagine the 2 fans should spin up with some warm hair coming out of the back.

I personally would have thought that supply should be able to handle it. Had a few of them in my time and they are pretty decent supplies.

Yea they are pretty solid supplies which is why I thought it would be fine.

I've removed the overclock on the CPU but will try underclocking it, good idea. Might unplug my DVD as well and see if that helps.

The 4870x2 seems very hot but sounds like that normal for these cards. GPU1 = 50c and GPU2 = 79c, quite a big difference though.

get a new PSU, at least 700w to have some margin.

any brand really: Tagan, Seasonic, Corsair, Enermax, PC Power and Cooling, Thermaltake are all rock solid. I hear good things about the high end Zalmans too.
